Volunteer

With no paid staff anywhere in Dreams Take Flight, the Volunteer Corps of is the lifeblood of our operation. Our volunteers work throughout each year to raise funds and prepare for one day of magic for over 100 excited children who are given an opportunity to escape the challenges of their daily lives for a day of excitement and opportunity.

Flight Day Eligibility

Every year chaperones are selected to accompany groups of children on Flight Day. A number of criteria are used in selecting the chaperones.

  • Sponsors are awarded chaperone seats with contributions of a given amount.
  • Certain children require a dedicated Personal Assistant.
  • Each group requires a lead chaperone who has been on flight at least once before.
  • The makeup of some groups will require selection of chaperones with certain skill sets or experience, based on the needs of the children in that group.

As the child selection process draws to a close each year, the process of matching chaperones to groups begins. Volunteers are selected on the basis of the criteria laid out above, and the number of hours the volunteer has contributed over the course of the year leading up to Flight Day.

While there is no set period, generally speaking volunteers chosen for flight will have contributed 20 hours or more during the year.

To increase your chances of being selected for flight, we encourage volunteers to let us know what their areas of expertise are, and to respond as calls are made for volunteers to staff events or to assist with the work of running the chapters.

Watch the home page of this site for further information about volunteering operations as details are posted.
